Heather is a Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) under the clinical supervision of Julia Small, LCSW-S. Heather received her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Communications from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in May 2020. She went on to receive her master’s in Social Work with a concentration in Children, Adolescents, & Families from the University of Alabama in May 2022. She has training and professional experience with family services, mental health, behavioral health, non-profit organizations, and private care settings. Additionally, Heather has training in child-centered play therapy (CCPT) from the University of North Texas and often approaches play therapy from a child-centered lens. Heather has worked extensively with children, teens, and adults in individual and group settings.
Heather works with her clients from a holistic, child-centered approach that utilizes their own self-determination and skill set to achieve growth. Much of Heather’s experience with teens and adults involves trauma informed care, solution-focused strategies, expressive arts techniques, and mindfulness techniques to reach a client’s goals. Additionally, as an experienced EMDR therapist, Heather works extensively with clients who have experienced trauma. Heather believes therapy should be a place where her clients feel heard and understood and guides her sessions by meeting clients where they’re at. Together with her clients, Heather helps connect the dots of past, present, and future, always going at the clients pace.
During her free time, Heather loves spending time with her husband outdoors or on the water, and caring for their plants. She also really enjoys cooking and trying to master sourdough bread!
