Priscilla Leyva, LPC Associate

“Parenting comes with so many rewards, but also with challenges as we navigate what is best for our children. Your being on this page alone shows that you care so deeply about their wellbeing. It would be an honor to be a part of your family’s journey.”

Hello and welcome! I am so happy you have landed on my page and honor your determination to find a therapist that is a good fit for your family. My name is Priscilla Leyva and I am a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and Registered Play Therapist™ (RPT™) in training. I am under the clinical supervision of Rosalie Piedra, LPC-S, RPT-S. My educational background includes a Bachelor’s in Sociology and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While I am proud of my achievements, what has shaped my career the most is over six years of experience working with children, teens, and adults in a variety of settings such as clinics, schools, and homes. These settings have allowed me to also work with individuals diagnosed with ADHD, autism, trauma, and anxiety. Other issues I have experience with include selective mutism, self-harm, social navigation needs, low self-esteem or negative self-talk, and gender identity concerns. I also have experience incorporating virtual counseling with children and teens.

As a therapist, I am particularly passionate about providing neurodiversity affirming therapy services. I am trained in AutPlay and utilize a person-centered approach, meaning your child will progress through counseling at a pace they are comfortable with. I value building rapport, trust, and collaboration with parents, and believe this is the foundation of my work with all clients. I honor that my therapeutic work with children and teens not only involves the child, but also the family. Additionally, I incorporate art, music, puppets, sandtray, and many other forms of healing! For older clients, I invite them to use a medium of their choice as we progress through talk therapy, where I use an integrative approach honoring all parts of them (culture, religion, gender identity, etc.).  Alongside talk therapy with teens, I incorporate somatic or mindfulness techniques, to begin building awareness of emotions and thus, more control of responses. I consider it a privilege to be apart of your family’s therapeutic journey and look forward to working alongside parents and caregivers to provide the best support to your child or teen.
