“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.” ― E.E. Cummings
Experience
I began my social work education at UT Austin, where I earned a Bachelors of Social Work. I went on to receive a Masters of Social Work at Columbia University in New York City before moving back to Austin to begin my career. I have centered my work around supporting children and families, having worked in early childhood education and as a clinical therapist with a focus on play therapy and parent coaching. In my work with clients, I draw from my training and experience working as a social worker at Head Start and as the child and family therapist at Shalom Austin.
Clients I Serve & My Therapeutic Approach
Meeting my clients where they’re at is at the core of my therapeutic practice. I hold no expectations for how people will show-up in therapy, by even stepping foot into my office you are taking a step towards healing. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship and utilize multiple modalities within my work. With my youngest clients I practice Child-Centered Play Therapy and Sandtray. I incorporate psychoeducation and Solution-Focused interventions with children, teens, and adults. I particularly thrive in my working incorporating the family system into play therapy. I believe change and healing occurs when we work as a team. This looks different for each child and teen I work with. With my youngest clients (ages 3-5), parents are often incorporated in the play room through filial therapy interventions and child parent relationship therapy. With older children and teens, parents may come into our sessions during the last few minutes, or we schedule ongoing parent sessions to collaborate on goals and progress.
Additionally, I love working one on one with parents to support the parent child bond and support a healthy attachment. I am trained in Circle of Security, which draws on the work of John Bowlby who focused his work on attachment theory.
