“It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried. It began to occur to me that unless I had a need to demonstrate my own cleverness and learning, I would do better to rely upon the client for the direction of movement in the process.” – Carl Rogers
Hello! My name is Hannah and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate working under supervision to obtain my LPC and Registered Play Therapist (RPT™) credential. Whether your child or adolescent is exhibiting behavioral problems or navigating a life change, I recognize that handling parental challenges can be overwhelming and exhausting. I am here to help! My approach to therapy is built upon a foundation of experience and a deep commitment to fostering healing in children, teens, adults, and families.
Experience
When people ask me how long I have worked with kids, I always say, “Pretty much my entire life!”. It was during my first job in high school as a summer camp counselor for elementary school students, where I discovered my passion for working with children. After high school, I moved from my hometown of Norman, OK to Georgetown, TX where I went to Southwestern University and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I worked at a foster home for children and adolescents. After receiving my B.A. in Psychology, I began working as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), providing 1:1 ABA therapy to children on the Autism Spectrum. This experience proved to be foundational to my professional growth. My six years as an RBT solidified my passion for helping children, ultimately leading me to pursue a career as a play therapist! I began my counseling degree at Texas State University in 2020 and graduated in December of 2024 with my M.A. in Professional Counseling. While completing my Master’s degree, I worked full-time as a Recovery Mentor at a residential treatment center for men with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Throughout my graduate career, I gained a variety of experience working with children, adolescents, families, and adults in individual and group settings. While interning at a Children’s Advocacy Center, I had the opportunity to provide individual counseling, including play therapy and sand tray therapy, to children and adolescents who have experienced trauma including physical and sexual abuse. The skills that I learned have helped me acquire proficiency in providing therapy to children in a warm, safe, and trusting environment.
Clients I Serve & My Therapeutic Approach
I believe that the creation of a strong, therapeutic relationship is essential to individual growth. For that reason, I am strongly committed to a person-centered approach, utilizing primarily non-directive forms of therapy in my work with clients. When working with children (ages 3-10), I predominately utilize Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), a nationally recognized evidence-based intervention that recognizes a child’s innate power to process emotions and work towards healing through their natural language: Play! I understand that handling parental challenges can be overwhelming and exhausting. While your child is receiving play therapy services with me, I will consistently meet with you for parent/caregiver consultations where we will discuss your child’s progress as well as play themes that I am observing in sessions and the meaning(s) behind those. During this time, I will also be teaching you parenting skills that you can use at home and give you any resources and recommendations as needed. When working with pre-teens, adolescents and adults, I draw upon a prescriptive approach, utilizing Person-Centered Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Expressive Arts techniques as I see fit.
