Carolyn Moreau, LCSW (She/Her/Hers)

“As parents/guardians, you are the most important person in your child’s life! Parenting is hard work and also can be a great joy. It takes courage to reach out for extra support for your child. Your involvement in child therapy can strengthen your relationship and support your parenting skills, improving your child’s well-being and family life.”

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 20 years’ experience working with children and parents. I am a Registered Play Therapist in-progress. Prior to joining Mindful Connections, I worked as a Bilingual School Social Worker and Parent Educator/Coach. It was there that my passion began for helping children and families heal and thrive amidst life’s challenges. I was thrilled to help develop a school-wide daily mindfulness program at the elementary school where I worked. As a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, I help parents use touch to enhance bonding and attachment. One of my great joys was growing up in Mexico and I am fluent in Spanish.

My Approach to Therapy

“Toys are children’s words and play is their language.” — Gary L. Landreth.

I believe that play therapy rooted in an empathetic, caring, safe and consistent relationship with the child has great healing power.  Play is a natural (and fun!) way for kids to express what they are feeling, thinking, or worried about.

In my work with children, I use Child-Centered Play Therapy, sand tray therapy, expressive arts, bibliotherapy, and therapeutic games, Theraplay-informed practices, trauma-informed and mind-body practices.

For children ages 8 and older, I may use play-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to work through difficult feelings such as anxiety, worry, anger, or sadness and build resilience.  I also enjoy sharing information about the brain and nervous system.  I bring curiosity, creativity, warmth, and practical skills to support parents in their child’s growth.

In my free time, I volunteer as team leader for an educational trip for 5th grade Guatemalan children.  I also enjoy yoga, barre, walking, reading and of course, travel!
